15 Of The Most Popular Wedding Songs

Choosing wedding music can be quite the challenge. With all the wonderful and popular wedding songs that we hear, it's hard to choose just a few special ones. Here is a bit of advice on how to go about selecting the songs that you need.

First, most couples will start with "their song", and use it for either their bridal procession or as the first dance, depending on the type of music that it features. Don't have a song that is "the two of yours?" Then listen through some of your favorites to find one that speaks from the heart and says what each of you would love to say to one another.

From there, you still need to pick additional wedding music for specific portions of the ceremony and reception. You will need music for the following:

At The Ceremony:

the interlude - while guests are being seated

prelude music - played as the groomsmen & bridesmaids make their way to the front

the processional - played as the bride walks up the aisle

the recessional - played after being pronounced man and wife, & the couple leave the altar

Note: You may also wish to have some soloist sing, as well as music played as you sign the marriage certificate.

At The Reception:

the first dance - as the newly married couple

the last dance - before you depart the reception

mother/son dance - usually right after the first dance

father/daughter dance - optional, although many couples now include this as well

cake cutting - soft background music

bouquet toss - lively tune

garter toss - lively or sexy tune while groom removes the garter and tosses it

dance music - a good variety of music

Often, couples also have some special songs that they want played during the reception, so be sure to make a list of them for your DJ or band leader (and check that they have/can play them.)
