Sixties Wedding Color Suggestions:

Pastel tie-dye colors: pinks, yellows, blues, greens, purples and oranges.

1960's Wedding Attire

  • Bride:

  • Short Chantilly lace wedding dress, go-go boots, pill-box hat with face netting, and gloves. Carry a bouquet of daisies or chrysanthemum.

  • Bridesmaids:

  • Mini-skirts or long, flowing skirts and peasant blouses, love beads, granny glasses, daisy wreath headband, crocheted vests. Carry a basket of daisies or a bouquet of wildflowers.

  • Groom:

  • Velvet jacket, bell-bottom pants, beaded headband, granny glasses and moccasins.

  • Groomsmen:

  • Velvet jackets or beaded/fringed vests, bell-bottom pants, moccasins, headbands and a wooden peace-sign necklace.

Invitation Ideas For a Sixties Theme Wedding:

    Find the perfect wedding invitation

    • Use an image of a 45 rpm record or a record album cover of the sixties.

    • Select invitations with images of daisies, fields of wildflowers, happy faces or peace signs.

    1960's Wedding Decorations:

    • As we all know, beads were the hot items way back when... and beaded curtains were all the rage. To bring a sixties retro-fit to your wedding decor, hang beaded curtains in doorways to your "love den."

    • Flower power was the chant of the day. Add some psychedelic fun by adding colorful groovy flowers to table decorations and walls.

    • Hang posters of actors, musicians and movies of that decade.

    • Pin old record jackets and records on the walls. You could also hang 45 and 33 1/3 rpm records from the ceiling.

    • Rent a jukebox and use it for music during the dinner.

    • Hang colorful fringed blankets from walls and draped over chairs.

    • Hang hula hoops and tambourines too. Create a wedding arch from hula hoops or cover a wedding arch with daisies.

    • Don't forget the mirrored balls!

    • Buy or rent a bubble machine.

    • Confetti, birdseed, or flower seeds...these are "required items" at any wedding. For your 1960's wedding theme, decorate your tables with sprinkles of retro-style confetti in the shapes of colorful daisies and smiley faces.

    • Where there's flowers there's butterflies. Hang giant colorful paper butterflies around the room for an extra special touch.

    • Balloons are always a good touch to use as a wedding decoration. Wrap columns, hang them from the ceiling, or create balloon bouquets with smiley face Balloons.

    Groovy Tables and Centerpieces:

    • Cover tables with fringed blankets instead of tablecloths.

    • Have floating daisy candles in pottery bowls.

    • Use battery operated lava lamps as centerpieces on tables.

    • Use large pillar candles as centerpieces. Drape love beads and daisies around base of candle.

    • Bring back some childhood memories and learn to make tissue paper flowers to use in centerpieces and decorations.

    • Insert a record in a small stand as a unique centerpiece.

    1960's Wedding Theme Favors:

    Elegant Wedding Favors

    • Hand out small bottles of bubbles with personalized labels.

    • Beaded headbands, peace sign necklaces, happy face pins, love beads.

    • Key chains are always popular such as a disco ball key tag.

    • Remember the old "granny glasses" with the colored lenses? Well, those Harry Potter movies have revitalized those groovy round glasses once more. A perfect wedding favor idea for a sixties wedding!

    • Daisy chains and peace symbols were seen everywhere. Present your wedding guests with a peace pendant for prosperity sake.

    • LOVE GROWS Plantable Wildflower Favors- Daisy (Set of 12)
"LOVE GROWS" Plantable Wildflower Favors- Daisy (Set of 12

    • Give the men muscle and vintage model Hot Wheels cars from the 1960's: Mustangs, Chevy Chevelle, Cameros, Dodge Chargers, Thunderbirds, Cadillac Coupe de Ville, Volkswagon Beetle, etc.

    • You Ain't Nothing But a Hound Dog... Elvis Presley is alive and well. Really he is! Hand out Elvis playing cards or other memorabilia.

    • "A Slinky, A Slinky..." remember that song from the old T.V. commercials? Let your guests have some old-fashioned kid fun with either the traditional silver metal or colorful plastic Slinkys.

    • Oh the penny candy that you could buy! Fill up gift bags with some of the old favorites from the sixties (many of these items can still be purchased at candy stores):

      • Bubble Gum Cigarettes
      • Cherry Heads & Lemon Heads
      • Gold Mine Gum
      • Red Hots
      • Fun Gum Wax Lips

    • Here's one more attendant's gift idea that's sure to be a hit. Everyone needs their own personalized lava lamp. It's groovy baby!

    • Other retro favor ideas are: tie-dyed t-shirts or scarves, temporary tattoos, "granny" (round) sunglasses.

Flowers of "Love" For The Sixties:

Daisy, Chrysanthemum, Baby's Breath, Sunflowers, Freesias, Roses.

    A 1960's Wedding Food Menu:

As this type of wedding theme is very casual, keep the food casual too:

Hot dogs and hamburgers, root-beer floats, veggie-burgers, chips and dip, wine coolers, fruit slushies.

If you happen to be having this wedding on a beach, be sure to include marshmallows for roasting on the bonfire.

    Psychedelic Entertainment:

    • Play your favorite songs from the Rolling Stones, the Beetles, Simon & Garfunkel, the Doors, the Who, the Monkees, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, etc.

    • Hold a hula hoop contest and a dancing contest. Who can do the best twist, pony, hand jive, mashed potato, and watusi? Finish it all off with a nice big train of people doing the locomotion!

    Other Suggestions:

To get a better idea of what was worn and how things were done back then, watch the movies: Grease, Dirty Dancing, West Side Story.
