Autumn Wedding Idea - Lavish Leaves

This autumn wedding idea picks up on the gorgeous colors and shapes of falling autumn leaves. Choose 2 or 3 colors... or use all of them in your color scheme! Some color ideas to select are: burgandy, deep reds, rusts, wine, burnt orange, orange-yellows, mustard yellow, yellow-green, and gold.

Dressing For The Occasion

The days are getting cooler and the nights shorter, so you'll want a fall wedding dress that is lightweight enough for a warm fall day, yet warm enough for a cooler evening. If you or your bridesmaids will be wearing strapless gowns, be sure to also include matching stoles, wraps, or capes to drape over your shoulders for later in the evening or if the weather turns cooler during the day.

Great Location Ideas

Fall is a time of vibrant colors... depending on where live that is. Obviously, those in the southern states won't have a backdrop of autumn colors like you would find in the northern states and in Canada. For those that are lucky enough to live in an area where the leaves turn, you may want to consider having your wedding ceremony outdoors amongst the trees. Some outdoor locations that would suit this autumn wedding idea would be: a rustic farm, a country inn, an apple orchard, a vineyard, or a nearby park.

Whether you live in a area with firey fall colors or not, you can still create a spectacular autumn wedding indoors as well. With colored accents and appropriate decorations, you can easily bring the outdoors inside.

Creating Your Fall Wedding Invitations

Get creative and make your own invitations. Buy sturdy stock paper in a deep cream color - in fact there are now many invitation kits available that you could purchase. Use leaf motif rubber stamps and inks favoring fall colors and stamp the background of the paper. Using a computer, print out your invitation wording on off-white vellum paper and cut it so that it is at least 1/2" to 1" smaller than the stamped invitation paper and secure it with using a glue stick along the edges. Wrap the invitation with a length of wired brown organza ribbon to finish it off.

Autum Wedding Theme Decorations

Keeping with the leaf theme, decorate the ceremony and reception locations with colorful autumn leaves.

  • Create pew markers with small, grapevine wreaths. Lightly wrap the wreath with sheer, narrow organza ribbon. Attach an orgazna bow to the lower front of the wreath. Glue on fabric leaves in the spaces between the ribbon along the wreath.

  • Fill fall colored balloons with hellium and make large balloon bouquets. Place throughout the reception room in corners, near main serving tables, and on either side of doorways.

  • Drape crepe paper streamers in front of the main table. Secure each swag point with a fall leaf wreath or large ribbon bow.

  • Use cream colored tablecloths with a burgundy, rust or deep red topper for contrast.

Table Decor and Centerpieces

  • Create leaf candle wraps for a simple table centerpiece (also a great idea for wedding favors). Buy pillar candles in suitable autumn colors. Next, you'll need to find a vase, large glass or other such glass container that is large and tall enough to hold the candle (but not too large circumference wise). Using a 3" wide ribbon, cut it so it wraps around the glass container, overlapping a bit. Secure with a glue gun. Glue 2 or 3 fabric leaves to the front of the ribbon. Wrap contrasting colored, thin ribbon or raffia around the wider ribbon and tie in the front over the leaves (to hide where they are glued). Set on the tables.

  • Fill woven baskets with fall leaves. Tie a pretty rust or orange-red ribbon to the handle for an inexpensive centerpiece.

  • Buy leaf shaped hole punches (oak, maple, etc.) and punch out your own leaf confetti from autumn colored papers. Sprinkle the confetti on the tables.

  • If you're crafty, make your own foliage arrangements using rustic planters, copper toned buckets or woven baskets as your container.

Fall Wedding Favors

  • Melt in your mouth goodness. Give your guests some maple sugar candy... in a maple leaf shape of course! Or wrap some autumn colored ribbons around purchased bottles of pure maple syrup.
  • Make or buy leaf shaped soap and nestle them in clear plastic boxes or cellophane favor bags. Tie and decorated with corresponding fall colored ribbon.

  • As the weather takes on a bit of a chill, hot chocolate would be a perfect warm-me-up favor gift. Buy small sample pre-packaged flavored coffees and add your own fall-leaf sticker label to the front.

  • Attach fall leaf wine charms to wine glasses as a classy wedding favor.

  • Purchase mints in tins and make your own fall sticker label for the tin cover.
