DIY Beach Theme Wedding Invitation Ideas

Beach Theme Wedding Invitations

Ready to try out some great ideas on designing your own beach theme wedding invitation?

It's actually quite easy to make your own invitations. With some imagination and a few graphics or photos, you're well on your way to creating a one-of-a-kind beach wedding invitation.

You can print the invitations yourself on good quality cardstock or purchase diy wedding invitation kits to use.

Another (and easier) option is to take a copy of your invitation on CD to your local stationary store and have them printed out (along with matching response and thank you cards too!) It may cost a bit more than doing it yourself, but you will be assured of a good quality printing job and save a lot of time.

Here are some unique ways to design your beach theme wedding invitation:

  • Cut the invitations into the shape of a large seashell, starfish or conch shell. This invitation style would work beautifully with a seashell theme wedding.
  • Create a "Message In a Bottle" invitation. Have your invitation printed on parchment paper. Roll it up and insert them into small plastic bottles. Carefully pack the bottles in cardboard tubing for mailing. This site has a nice tutorial on how to do this. A "message in a bottle invitation" works well with our ocean wedding theme and our pirate wedding ideas.
  • Thinking of having an informal wedding with close family and friends? Then have a little fun with your invites. Inflate a beach ball and write your invitation on the ball with a permanent marker. Deflate the ball and mail it in a large envelope.
  • Buy blank CD's and a CD label kit. Create your invitations on the labels to look like a beach song CD. Burn some of your favorite beach tunes on the CD. Guests not only receive beach theme wedding invitations, they also get some tunes to listen to while getting ready to attend your wedding! This is a perfect compliment for a tropical wedding theme.
  • If you are having your wedding on a beach or if there is a very special beach that you are both fond of, take a few photos of it (such as at sunrise, sunset and during the day). Use the photographs for the front of a folded card or as a faded background for a single layer card with the wording overlaid on top.
  • Embellish the front of your card with fine beach sand. Use modge podge (glue that dries clear) and paint a section across the bottom of the invitation, then sprinkle sand on the wet glue and allow to dry. You can set the sand by putting a light coat of modge podge thinned with water over the sand.
