Ceremony Locations
For Medieval Wedding Themes

Finding suitable locations to hold the ceremony and reception for medieval wedding themes may appear to be a problem, depending on where you live. In fact, there are actually quite a few options available, but you need to "think outside the box" when researching possible venues. Here are a few suggestions to help you with your "location" dilemma.

Medieval Wedding Themes - Finding a Suitable Location For Your Event

Begin your search by looking for old, Gothic style churches, historical buildings, Tudor style homes or large open park areas and/or gardens. Even without these particular type of structures, you can still make almost any location have the look and feel of a medieval castle or garden by using decorations and various props.

Make sure to keep a list of the sites that you look at; take note of their good and bad point, and list ideas that you can incorporate into your medieval scheme. You may want to read the article: Evaluating A Wedding Reception Location for additional tips before signing any contracts booking a venue.

Gothic, Renaissance and Medieval Churches

The most obvious place to start looking for ceremony locations for Medieval wedding themes is a local church. Many churches are built from stone and have a historical look and feel to them. A nice setting would be at a local country church in the area. You will need to speak to the clergy at several churches to see if they are willing to officiate at a medieval type of wedding.

Backyard Weddings

A backyard setting can be lovely for an outdoor medieval wedding, especially if it has a beautiful garden. Make sure the site has mature trees, lots of flowers and some benches.

Local Woodland Park, Gardens and Lake Locations

If you have park areas that are filled with trees and pathways, with some open field space, this would be a great location for a Medieval wedding ceremony. Local lakes with recreational areas would also work. You will need to find out whether this is a city park or provincial/state park. Contact the Parks and Recreation department to find out.

Many cities also have botanical gardens that may suffice for a small ceremony venue.

Historical Homes

Sometimes, you can rent out historical homes in your community. Some of these homes are owned by the city and function as "tourist" sites. If you do some digging, you may also find local people who are willing to rent their homes for such occasions. What you are looking for are homes that have Gothic or Tudor style architecture.

Chalets and Country Inns

Consider having your wedding and reception at a Country Inn or Chalet in the mountains. The scenery is usually outstanding and, as they are in the "tourist" industry, they will most often have a kitchen for catering and a dining room. Keep in mind that most Medieval villages contained a local Inn, so if you can find one that embodies the look and feel of such a building, inquire about holding your ceremony and/or reception there.

Medieval Castles

If you live in an area where there is a castle in the vicinity, you are very lucky. Find out who owns it and see if they are willing to allow you to use their castle for your medieval wedding. If you are willing to travel, there are a number of castles in Europe who book out to wedding parties.

Wikipedia actually has a list of castle locations in the United States, as well as castles in Canada. It can't hurt to check them out and see what arrangements could be made. And, here's their listing of links to castles around the world.

Medieval and Renaissance Fairs

Almost all of the Medieval and Renaissance Fairs held throughout the world conduct wedding ceremonies or will allow you to arrange your wedding ceremony to take place at their faire. The Society for Creative Anachronism is the best place to start your search for various locations that are nearby. http://www.sca.org.

The above should give you a good base of ideas to begin your search. Use your imagination when looking for suitable ceremony and receptions locations that fit Medieval wedding themes. You may be surprised as to what's out there that you could use.
