Pirate Wedding Invitations

Are you planning to have a pirate wedding theme?

If so, you'll want to use invitations that reflect a pirate's life featuring pictures of: deserted islands, treasure chests, a Captain's ship wheel, old schooners, pirate hats, a parrot on a pirate's shoulder, and/or other similar symbols.

Below is a sample idea that you can recreate either on your computer or by hand.

Ahoy Matey Pirate Wedding Invitation

For creating the "Ahoy There Matey!" invitation shown below on your you will need:

  • a graphic of a desert island scene or some type of pirate image
  • white cardstock
  • a computer for typing up your wording and a color printer
Pirate Wedding Invitation Idea - Ahoy There Matey

1) Scan in your print of the island if needed (or you use a photo image that you've found online that works well).

2) Set your background to the size you want your invitation to be. Color it a sea blue.

3) Resize your photo print or graphic to about a 1/2" smaller in width and length of the blue background. Copy and paste the photo image onto the blue background and center it.

4) Fade the print layer only by adjusting the opacity to approximately 30% to 50%, depending on how dark the graphic is.

5) Create a new layer and type out your wording as desired directly on the image.

6) Save your invitation and print out as many copies as needed on the white cardstock. Cut out the print carefully, preferably using a paper cutting machine.

7) Alternatively, you could save the invitation image as a .jpg and copy it to a computer memory stick or burn it onto a CD, then take it into a photocopy store to have them print and cut your invitations.

Handmade Pirate Wedding Invitation

Alternatively, you could make copies of the picture (don't fade the opacity - you want it to remain strong in color), cut them out, and glue them directly onto the blue cardstock (remember to leave a slight border all around).

Then type up your invitation using a word processor program (make sure it will fit properly on your invitation when printed).

Print the actual invitation on plain white or light blue vellum paper. (The paper will be slightly transparent, allowing the picture underneath to be seen, but it won't be overpowering.) Use draft mode when printing so that the ink isn't too dark.

Glue the vellum on top of the invitation along the edges (use a glue that will dry transparent)... or punch holes in the velum and cardstock and thread some raffia through the openings and tie into a knot on the front.

Other Ideas For a Pirate's Theme Wedding Invitation

Another suggestion is to create your invitation in the form of an antique looking pirate's treasure map, where X marks the spot of the wedding location.

A "message in a bottle" invitation would also be perfect for this theme. Yes, you can actually mail plastic bottles with labels on them.
