Pirate Wedding Invitations

Are you planning to have a pirate wedding theme? If so, you'll want to use invitations that reflect a pirate's life featuring pictures of: deserted islands, treasure chests, a Captain's ship wheel, old schooners, pirate hats, a parrot on a pirate's shoulder, and/or other similar symbols. Below is a sample idea that you can recreate either on your computer or by hand.

For the "Ahoy There Matey!" invitation below you will need:

A print out of a desert island scene, white cardstock, navy blue cardstock, a computer for typing up your wording and a color printer.

Pirate Wedding Invitation Idea - Ahoy There Matey

Scan in your print of the island if needed (or you may have saved a graphic already that you found online). Using a graphics program, resize your print to about a 1/2" smaller than you want the finished invitation to be. Fade the print by adjusting the opacity to approximately 30% to 50%, depending on how dark the print is.

Type out your wording as desired directly on the image. Save the image as a .gif or .jpg. Print out as many copies as needed on the white cardstock. Cut out the print carefully. Measure and cut the navy blue cardstock 1/2" larger than the printed cardstock. Center the picture/invite onto the blue background and glue down.

Alternatively, you could make copies of the picture (don't fade the opacity - you want it to remain strong in color), cut them out, and glue them directly onto the blue cardstock (remember to leave a slight border all around). Then type up your invitation using a word processor program (make sure it will fit properly on your invitation when printed), then print the invite on plain white or light blue vellum paper. (The paper will be slightly transparent, allowing the picture underneath to be seen, but it won't be overpowering.) Use draft mode when printing so that the ink isn't too dark. Glue the vellum on top of the invite along the edges.

Another suggestion is to create your invitation in the form of an antique looking pirate's treasure map, where X marks the spot of the wedding location. A "message in a bottle" invitation would also be perfect for this theme. Yes, you can actually mail plastic bottles with labels on them.

Where To Find Pirate Wedding Design Ideas For Your Invitations

The links below will take you to web sites that feature children's pirate party invitations. These should provide you with a few ideas on how you could design your own wedding invitations. If you wish to order invitations, you'll probably have to stick with a general beach themed invite, as it's nearly impossible to find wedding invitations for this theme. However, you can choose a simple design then embellish teh stationary yourself with stickers, glitter pens, appliques, etc.
