Rose Theme Wedding
A Rainbow of Roses

This rose theme wedding idea pairs the vibrant fragrances and colors of roses with the beautiful colors of the rainbow for a casual, yet unique celebration.

Rose Theme Wedding

Depending upon the roses (types and colors) that you choose to use, they can impart either a formal or a casual atmosphere.

With this particular flower theme, we'll be focusing on a casual setting using the colors found in a rainbow (soft shades of pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple), along with complimentary corresponding roses.

Wedding Attire

Overall, do you want to stick to one color for your wedding party's attire or have each bridesmaid sporting a different color? Whichever you choose, be sure to keep the style of the dresses and suits the same for all of your attendants.

Bride's Dress

Go with traditional white, perhaps with roses embroidered on the gown. The tiara or headpiece would have roses as well. Some veils have a rose lace trim that you might want to consider.

Bridesmaids Dresses

Choose either one color from the rainbow or have each bridesmaid wear a different colored dress... all dress styles should be the same though.

Stick with pastels, rather than vibrant color choices. Soft and subtle is what you're looking for. Have each of them carry a matching colored single rose.

Groom and Groomsmen

Go with dark blue or green suits, rather than black. The cummerbunds and/or vests could be varying colors of the rainbow for each man. Alternatively, give each groomsmen a different colored rosebud boutonniere to match the flower carried by each bridesmaid.

Choose a Rose Wedding Invitation

Keep to your rose theme wedding by sending your guests invitations that feature this beautiful flower. A simple imprint of a rose on an invitation looks very elegant or choose one that offers some color.

An alternative is to select an invitation that features a rainbow. You could place a small silk rose bud inside the invitation or tie one to the outside with corresponding ribbon.

If you're making your own invitations, make up your own version of the "Roses are Red" poem verse.

Alternatively, you could include the song popular children's song: "Can You Sing A Rainbow?"

Ideas For Rose Wedding Bouquets

Decorations For A Rose Theme Wedding

  • Match your theme with balloon bouquets. You can put together a "rainbow" of balloon colors for each bouquet or use balloons imprinted with roses.
  • At most wedding receptions, you will see the tables and some parts of the room swagged with tulle netting or gossamer. An idea for this theme would be to use a tie-dyed gossamer in rainbow colors.
  • Decorate an arbor for your ceremony with artificial climbing rose vines. Use this same arbor at the reception to place over the cake table or gift table.
  • Use a balloon arch covered in rainbow colored balloons as a wedding arch or behind the reception head table. Set the arch in "pots of gold" at each end. (You may even want to add a toy leprechaun at one of the pots to "guard his treasure".)

Table Decor and Rose Wedding Centerpieces

Rose Theme Wedding Decorations
  • Rose confetti will add a romantic touch to your tables. You could also sprinkle some in your invitations too.
  • Help to seat your guests by using rose imprinted place cards.
  • Scatter assorted colored rose petals on the tables.
  • Create your own miniature "rose garden" near the gift table. Use real or fake potted roses in a variety of colors and sizes and place them at the back of the gift table. Be sure to leave a significant amount of room for gifts.
  • Fill clear glass bowls or large brandy snifters with water. Sprinkle rose petals on top and add some rose-shaped floating candles. Use these as your guest table centerpieces.

Watch this video by Preston Bailey on how to make a Rose Bowl Centerpiece. It's very simple to do, yet very elegant and a great idea to place in front of each guest's seat:

Rose Theme Wedding Bridal Favors

  • Decorate small gift boxes buy securing a large silk rose on top. You could also use rubber stamps and rainbow colored paint to stamp roses around the box. Fill with pastel colored jelly beans.
  • Give your guests rosebud shaped chocolates wrapped in cellophane bags and tied with various colored ribbons.
  • Everyone seems to love candles. A nice favor gift would be pastel colored long-stemmed rose candles.
  • Two good standards that are prefect for favors are rose twinkle pops (rose shaped lollipops) or long-stemmed, foil wrapped chocolate roses. Both types of candy can be given out individually or used as a bouquet on the table... and guests help themselves.
  • Scented soaps are always a nice touch, especially for the ladies. Present your guests with rose soap petals (they are designed to look like rose buds).
  • For those guests whom you know enjoy a bottle of wine with dinner, hand out wine stopper wedding favors with a rose design.

Wedding Cakes and Cake Toppers

Rose Wedding Cake

Instead of the typical white or chocolate cake, why not have your baker create a rainbow cake with each layer being colored one of each color in the rainbow. Each layer could be iced to match.

A simple white cake can also be dressed up in a colorful fashion using flowers, as shown in this photo.

Here, we see white and dusty pink shaded roses with purple floral accents and some greenery.

Think of ways in which you could change this cake style to suit our multi-colored rose theme wedding.
