Make Your Own Sand Castle Invitations

Sand castle invitations or wedding invitations that incorporate sand in some way (like drawings on a wet beach) will help set the tone of this theme for your guests. Below are a couple of ideas for making your own invitations that were quickly put together using a computer graphic's program.

This first sandcastle wedding invitation is started with a white background. I added a border around the edges then applied a grain filter to give it a "sandy" look. I then added a sandcastle clipart picture and typed in the wording. The entire invitation graphic size was set to 4" x 6" for easy printing.

If you wish to make this by hand, simple cut border pieces out of sand-colored paper and glue along the edges of pre-cut white or light beige cardstock. Add a sandcastle sticker, die-cut picture, or a printed picture that you have cut out by hand and glue to the invitation. You can then either handwrite your wording by or type it out on a word processing program and print directly to the cards.

This second invitation is also quick to make with a computer graphics program or by hand. For the computer, just find a sandcastle photo and size it to 4" x 6" or 5" x 7". Add a layer of white color on top (leaving a small border of the print showing through on the edges). Make this white layer slightly opaque. Type up your invitation and print it out on white cardstock.

To make it by hand, copy a photo of the sandcastle on pre-cut cardstock. Cut translucent vellum paper ¼" smaller on all sides than the print. Using a word processing program type out your invitation and print it on the vellum sheet (use draft printing mode). Using a glue stick (so there won't be globs of glue showing through) gently glue the top edge of the vellum to the photo card.

You can add texture and interest by embellishing any invitation by highlighting simple designs with liquid glue and sprinkling regular or colored sand over the glue, if you wish.
