St. Patrick's Day Wedding Theme
Please note: this St. Patrick's Day wedding theme is NOT a traditional Irish wedding. If you want to have a traditional Irish wedding, I suggest you pick up the book: The Irish Wedding Book by Kim McGuire.
Emerald green is the color of the day and 4 leaf clovers will bring you luck with this fun-inspired Irish heritage wedding idea. Perhaps you'll even find that pot of gold under the rainbow.
Bridal Attire For The Wedding Party
I'll leave this up to you. You may want to dress in formal bridal wear or the bride and her attendants could dress as Irish maids or pixie fairies. The groom, along with his groomsmen, could dress like Irish gents or leprechauns.
Wedding Invitations
Create your own unique St. Patrick's Day wedding invitations using a greeting card software program and a colored printer. You can also purchase quality blank wedding invitation stationary sets at most office supply stores.
- Green invitations with a leprechaun on the front with a pot of gold at his feet and a border of four leaf clovers.
- A white invitation with a coloured rainbow in a meadow with a pot of gold at its base.
- Cut your invitations to look like pots of gold and pixie dust sparkling around it.
- A simple invitation with a maypole in the middle with the bride and groom dancing around it.
St. Patrick's Day Wedding Decorations
- Create a rainbow behind the head table from poster board, each end anchored in a large cast-iron pot. Fill the pots full with newspapers then place a circle base on top of this cut from cardboard. On top of the cardboard, place chocolate gold-foiled "coins". Cut the bride and groom's first names from cardboard and color in emerald green. Spread watered glue mix and sprinkle sparkles on the names. Secure to the hang from the rainbow.
- Rent fake, potted leafy trees. Place around the room and string with small, white lights. For extra effects, place small fairy dolls in the trees on a few branches.
- If you have the room, make a maypole. An idea might be to use the pole and weighted stand of an outside table umbrella (without the umbrella part). Attach lengths of green and white ribbon from the top of the pole. Have a maypole dance.
- Drape lengths of fake ivy in front of the main tables and secure with large green and white bows. You could also use tulle as your draping material.
- Create a "blarney stone" from paper mache and place just inside the doorway as people enter. Or use it as a decoration on the gift table.
- Fill green and white balloons with helium and tie several together as a bouquet of balloons. Place throughout the room and on either side of doorways.
Bridal Favors
You can find a nice assortment of Irish wedding favors here if you're looking for some general ideas on what to give to your guests.
- Give guests a lucky, rabbit foot's key chain.
- Buy those gold-foiled chocolate coins that come packaged in netting.
- Give small clay pots filled with a bag of wildflower seeds for them to plant at home. Decorate the pots with shamrocks and rainbows.

Table Decor and Centerpieces
- Using a decorated pot, place flower styrofoam in the bottom. Make a bouquet of balloon clovers (secured on sticks) and baby's breath.
- Create an arrangement with white carnations tinted with green tips in a tall, simple vase. Tie a ribbon and bow around the vase neck.
Pew Markers
- Cut stiffened fabric shamrocks. Decorate with some glitter and glue to green floral wire. Tie 3 or 4 shamrocks together with white and green ribbon and attach a loop to the back to hang.
- Layer green and white tulle together. Tie into a large bow, leaving some ends hanging down. Glue a small shamrock to the center of the bow with the couple's name written on it in gold glitter pen. Add a wire loop to the back for hanging.
Wedding Programs
Use green paper and white lettering for your programs. For the cover, design a rainbow reaching from the lower left hand corner and curving up to the upper right hand corner. Add some glitter to the rainbow and add a pot of gold to the lower right hand corner. Put the couple's name in the center of the cover in gold lettering.
Irish Wedding Music
There are many Irish tunes that you can choose from. Certainly, be sure to include an Irish jig during your reception. Some suggested Irish wedding music CD's that you may wish to purchase:

Wedding Cake
- Get a traditional 2 or 3 tiered white cake and have it decorated with shamrocks instead of flowers. For the topper, look for "cute" bride and groom figurines.
- Another topper idea is to have the top of the cake decorated to look like a meadow with a little leprechaun sitting under a tree with a pot of gold beside him and a rainbow nearby. We feature some Irish wedding cake tops by Red Galoshes.
- The obvious choice... since it's a St. Patrick's Day wedding, make it into the shape of a shamrock. The topper could include a bride and groom walking under a rainbow.
