Country and Western Style Wedding Invitations

There are many designs for western style wedding invitations that range from lighthearted, fun and casual to ones that reflect a more formal and classical marriage celebration.

For a classic invitation, choose cream, ecru or parchment colored backgrounds with a symbol of the west imprinted on it such as a horseshoe, cowboy boot with spurs, barn, horses, cowboy hat, stage coach or covered wagon, saddles or perhaps rope trim.

Backgrounds can also be photo pictures of fields, fences, barns, wagon wheels or take a portion of an object, such as a barn door, and use that as the background.

Casual country wedding invitations could include denim, calico, gingham or bandana backgrounds and be cut into one of the shapes of the western icons mentioned above. Perhaps a "wanted poster" design is something that appeals to you.

Field flowers also work well for this type of theme such as daisies, sunflowers, buttercups and other wild flowers. A scenic photo of the prairies, horses in a field or near a stream, or a photo of an old farmstead would be lovely too.

Just use your imagination about what comes to mind when you think country and western. You're sure to find something that speaks to both of you.

Add Creative Embellishments To Your Invites

Get creative and embellish your western theme wedding invitations by adding some visions of the wild, wild west. Here are some suggestions you could try out.

  • Try tying love knots with small pieces of twine and attach them to the bottom each of your invitations.
  • Instead of a "regular" invitation, create old western-style telegrams or "wanted poster" style invites to announce your wedding or the rehearsal dinner.
  • Secure small horseshoe charms or scrapbooking brads to enhance your invitation.
  • Add a map drawn on parchment paper and burned slightly at the ends so guests will know exactly how to get to the ceremony and the reception. This is especially important for out-of-town guests that may not know your city very well.
  • Include a short western sonnet, a meaningful verse from a country love song, romantic quotes or western sayings for a personal touch.
  • Find some country and western style rubber ink stamps and stamp designs along the edges or on the cover if you're using a folded card.
  • Purchase stencils and transfer the designs onto your invitations. You can leave the stencil as is or color them in with markers. With the increased popularity of memory scrap-booking today, you can find a tremendous amount of various stencils (and papers) to choose from.
  • Create decorative borders with thin twine, braid, raffia or other such items found in the sewing notion sections of department and/or fabric stores.
