Western Theme Wedding Invitations

Adding Creative Embellishments

Tired of the formal, ho-hum invitations that everyone seems to receive? Then it's time to get creative and design and/or embellish your western theme wedding invitations by adding some visions of the wild, wild west. Here are some suggestions for adding creative embellishments.

  • The easiest thing to do is to make or buy western style wedding invitations in the shape of a horseshoe, cowboy hat, boot or a covered wagon.

  • Try tying love knots with small pieces of twine and attach them to the bottom each of your invitations.
  • Instead of a "regular" invitation, create old western-style telegrams to announce your wedding.
  • "Wanted Poster" style invites are also a popular choice.
  • Add a map drawn on parchment paper and burned slightly at the ends so guests will know exactly how to get to the ceremony and the reception. This is especially important for out-of-town guests that may not know your city very well.
  • Include a short western sonnet, a meaningful verse from a country love song, romantic quotes or western sayings for a personal touch.
  • Find some country and western style rubber ink stamps and stamp designs along the edges or on the cover if you're using a folded card.
  • Purchase stencils and transfer the designs onto your western theme wedding invitations. You can leave the stencil as is or colored them in with markers. With the increased popularity of memory scrap-booking today, you can find a tremendous amount of various stencils (and papers) to choose from.
  • Create decorative borders with thin twine, braid, raffia or other such items found in the sewing notion sections of department and/or fabric stores.
